Artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen developed the Little Sun solar-powered lamp and founded the company Little Sun GmbH to make clean, affordable light available to everyone. Little Sun’s unique combination of beautiful design and exceptional engineering has made the lamp popular across the globe. The Little Sun project connects people through the power of light. Little Sun is a social business based in Berlin, Germany. The company believes that it’s not just about delivering light to people – it matters how it gets there. Their mission is to address the need for light in a sustainable way that benefits off-grid communities. All funds generated by Little Sun are used to drive the project.

Little Sun enhances the lives of people in off-grid communities by:
• enabling longer working hours and greater productivity
• providing light for children to study in the evening
• supplying light for families to cook together at night
• allowing people to socialize after dark
• improving workplace safety
• replacing unsafe and toxic fuel-based lighting
• saving users 90% of what they would spend on kerosene lighting over a 3-year period
A traveling Little Sun is accompanying all trips of RasRobeenTours especially to the off-grid regions in the South Omo Valley. The team of RasRobeenTours committed to promote the use of Little Suns in these areas and educate people on their benefits, especially the fact that the solar lamps can replace costly and unhealthy kerosene lamps. We try to encourage local shop owners to include the Little Sun in their portfolio and check up on demand on each trip we go there. All activities the team of RasRobeenTours is carrying out with the Little Sun solar lamp are strictly on a voluntary and nonprofit basis.
