The Simien Mountains

The Simien Mountains is often considered as Ethiopia’s most impressive National Park. With the country’s highest peak Ras Dashen (4,620m) and a dozen 4,000m high peaks, it offers trails for moderate and experienced trekkers. The area is also home of three endemic Ethiopian species, namely the Gelada Baboon, Walia Ibex wild goat and the Abyssinian Wolf.

Itinerary 1
Difficulty: Beginners to Moderate

Day 1

Arrival Addis Ababa

Day 2

Fly to Gonder. Drive to Debark and proceed in vehicle to Sankaber Camp (3250m). Overnight camping

Day 3

Trek from Sankaber Camp to Geech Camp (3600m). A 5-7 hours trekking through the Koba River Valley and the Geech abyss. Overnight camping.

Day 4

Trek from Geech Camp to Chenek Camp (3620m). The 5-6 hours trekking affords some of the most spectacular views under Simien peaks and high chances of seeing wildlife. Overnight camping.

Day 5

Drive from Chenek Camp back to Gonder via Debark. Overnight Hotel.

Day 6

Fly from Gonder back to Addis.

Itinerary 2 (including Ras Dasheen Trek)
Difficulty: moderate to experienced

Day 1-4

of the first itinerary are identical

Day 5

Trek from Chenek Camp to Ambiko Base Camp (3,200m). This is a 8-9 hours hike and is very strenuous. It takes hikers to 4,200m over the Bwahit Pass and descends all the way to 2,800m to the Mesheha River, then climbs again to the Ambiko Base Camp. Best opportunity to see the Walia Ibex. Overnight Camping.

Day 6

Trek from Ambiko Base Camp to Ras Dashen (4,200m). This is a all day Trek passing by the village of Mizma before following to the top. After reaching the summit, return to the Base Camp. Overnight Camping.

Day 7

Transport back to Gonder, Overnight Hotel.

Day 8

Fly from Gonder back to Addis Ababa.

Bale Mountains

Bale Mountains is an area of spectacular views and stunning landscapes. The hike through the mountains offers visitors the chance to experience how the local Oromia people live. Each hut is fully equipped with beds and full kitchen supplies.You will hike through valleys and highland plateaus optionally on foot or horseback. Every village that will be visited for overnight are benefiting directly from tourism and welcome hikers with a friendly and peaceful atmosphere.

Itinerary
Difficulty: Beginners to Moderate

Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa

Day 2: Drive to Dodola (5 hours). Register with Bale Mountain Guide Association and drive to Changeti Camp (2,900m). Overnight Hut.

Day 3: Trek from Changeti Camp to Wahoro Camp (3,300m). The 3-4 hours trek climbs into the Afro Mooreland of the Bale Mountains. Overnight Hut.

Day 4: Trek from Wahoro Camp to Angafu Camp (3,460m). This is 4-5 hours hike through the highland meado

Day 5: 1-2 hours trek from Angafu Camp to Adele (3,300m). The trek offers visitors to explore the surrounding peaks and waterfalls. Overnight Hut.

Day 6: Hiking back from Angafu Camp to Changeti Camp (2,900m). The last trek, which is about 4-5 hours will complete the circuit. Drive back to Addis Ababa in the evening.
